Media and Community Support
Media
The Parents Matter Media Campaign is just one piece of Maine’s successful overall strategy to reduce teen pregnancy. Conversations parents have with their children and teens can be reinforced by Comprehensive School Health Education initiatives in local schools, programming in the community for out-of school time, and other supports for young people. By working together, communicating, and planning, we can be more effective in every community throughout Maine.
Tips on Promoting the Abstinence Media Campaign in the Media:
- Develop your own press kit to include your own success story (1-page; optional), our release (see above), and photos.
Include 1 or 2 quotes from key members of your organization.
Interview local experts or other reliable resources for 1 or 2 quotes for your own story.
Insert 1- 2 short paragraphs of a related teen pregnancy prevention “success story” that your organization is/was responsible for.
Plan a meeting, press conference, or a series of one-on-one meetings with local media.
Contact the editors of community newspapers in your area about related local stories.
